Collaborations

Over the years, I have had the privilege of playing, writing and sharing ideas with many talented musicians. Here are some of the sessions I have been able to capture!

Surf’s Up!

Surf’s Up!

These live, unrehearsed jams were captured during the period where the band (The Killer Jellyfish) was searching for a drummer. These songs are completely impromptu and feature Ron Vreeland on drums; Matt Huppert on guitar; Steve Raguso on guitar; Chad Kesser on bass.

Murph Jam (2009)

Murph Jam

This live acoustic jam is based off of The Killer Jellyfish song Murph and is played by both Matt Huppert and Ron Vreeland on guitar. This was an impromptu jam captured at Ron’s home studio. Although it is loosely based off of another song, it quickly takes a life of its own. This song is memorable since immediately after this jam was captured, the recording interface used during the session blew itself up and was no longer operable!

The Prodigal (2006)

The Prodigal

The Prodigal is a song I wrote around the same time as Copper Coins. Both songs are in DADGAD tuning. This demo was a quick workup using my Washburn EA20, Yamaha PF500, Fender Jazz bass and some various programmed percussion. On this demo, good friend and vocalist/songwriter Barry McGuire lends his voice to complete the song.

Filthy Rags (2006)

Filthy Rags

Filthy Rags started as a progression I had written in DADGAD right around the same time as The Prodigal and Copper Coins. I gave an instrumental copy of the demo to friend and vocalist Barry McGuire for him to work on. He returned with fantastic lyrics and vocal parts. This demo was laid down live and very rough; I like the way it is captured as it feels very honest and heartfelt.

Going to California (2005)

Going to California

This live cover of Going to California was recorded in my home studio in 2005. Featuring Rhoda Vreeland on piano. I later overdubbed a second guitar part to emulate the classic Led Zeppelin style of layered guitars. The main guitar part, vocals and piano piece were all recorded live on one track; overdubs were done later in the day.

Just You and Me (2001)

Just You and Me

Back in 2001, I had the opportunity to collaborate with good friend and songwriter Nicholas Ward for his solo project, A New Love for Music. On this excellent track, I played acoustic guitar for the solo section, electric guitar for the second solo section, bass guitar and percussion. I really love this song and had a lot of fun laying down these tracks and working with Nicholas.

Juniata Jam (2001)

Juniata Jam

Shortly after acquiring a Clavia Ddrum set, friend and collaborator Ryan Harvey stopped by to play with the new kit. We ended up recording this jam on a Roland VS880 hard disk recorder. I played guitar live along with Ryan and we both improvised the song structure. Later, I added bass and electric piano tracks just for fun.
